About Us
The Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland was established in 2001. The mission of IAI, through the representation of our members, is to advance the profession of archaeology by seeking to promote development, education, contact, regulation, high standards and public dissemination of its work.
In 2001 IAI, in conjunction with the Heritage Council commissioned CHL Consulting to conduct a study of the profile of the archeology profession and education resources on the island of Ireland; this study was subsequently expanded to include an analysis of the future demand for archaeologists.

Over the last 12 months IAI has produced a series of Codes of Conduct relating to the professional practice of archaeology, which were ratified by the membership at the most recent AGM in Belfast in March 2006. The next 6 months mark the lead-in period; all members will be expected to fully implement the codes from Autumn 2006 onwards. All ratified codes will be reviewed every two years.
